Confucian and Taoist poetics, from the system form to the ideological connotation, both originate from the“Poetry”of the“Six Arts”.However, due to their respective ideological focus, the two approaches to the traditional rites and music of the Zhou Dynasty diverge, and develop two forms, namely“humanistic poetry teaching”of Confucianism and“life poetics”of Laozhuang Daoist school. The Confucianists take the consciousness of ethical education as the direction, while the Taoists take the heavenly way and the nature of mind as their concern. This paper divides the poetics of Confucianism and Taoism, and probes into the characteristics of the two poetics, their historical generation and internal logical relations,as well as the cultural symbiosis that seems to be opposite but actually exists in interaction. This paper is part of the author’s series of studies on Taoism poetics.
