摘 要:Temperature-dependent sex determination(TSD)in the red-eared slider turtle(Trachemys scripta)has been extensively studied.Recent scientific inquiry has shifted focus from identifying genes involved in gonadal differentiation to understanding the thermal switch mechanisms that convert temperature cues into cellular signals.A recent study has demonstrated that primary cells from embryonic gonads exhibit a robust Ca2+signal upon heating(Weber et al.2020),which are all female-producing temperatures. These observations offer an opportunity to identify the thermal switch that triggers the cellular signals. Here,we discuss the potential thermal switch responsible for the Ca2+signal.
