摘 要:乔治·奥威尔(1903—1950)是以“文学的社会学批评”见长的评论家。他在1940年代撰写了一组核心文章,既主张划清艺术与宣传的界限,也强调主题和形式的平衡,这两大要义构成了其文学批评和创作的基本原则。在批评中坚守艺术与宣传的界限即倡导一种超越政治偏见和宣传目的的自主性审美评价,以确保文学评判的客观公正;主题和形式批评并重的原则落实到创作实践中即为“把政治写作变成艺术”的理想,它作为奥威尔在审美情感和政治目的之间不断调和的努力,体现了艺术与宣传的平衡。George Orwell(1903-1950)was a critic good at"sociological criticism of literature".In the 1940s,he wrote a group of core articles,not only advocating for drawing a clear line between art and propaganda but also emphasizing the balance between theme and form.These two essentials constitute the basic principles for his literary criticism and creation.Sticking to the boundary between art and propaganda in criticism is advocating for an independent aesthetic evaluation beyond political biases and propaganda purposes to ensure the objectivity and fairness of literary criticism.The principle of attaching equal importance to both theme and form is actualized in creation practice,which is an ideal of"making political writing into an art".As Orwell's constant effort to reconcile aesthetic emotions with political goals,it typically reflects the balance between art and propaganda.
