《钦定本圣经》与英语的标准化

摘　　要：在缺少官方组织干预的情况下,多种影响因素共同促成了现代标准英语的形成,其中《钦定本圣经》的刊行与传播功不可没。依据语言学家大卫·格拉德等人关于语言标准化的理论,《钦定本圣经》在现代英语的形成过程中,至少发挥了三个方面的重大作用,从而推动了英国民族标准语的确立:一是它促进了现代英语的规范化;二是它提升了英语语言的使用功能;三是它推动了现代英语的通行与普及。这三个方面并行不悖,相辅相成。Various factors led to the formation of modern standard English in the absence of official intervention,among which the Authorized Version of the Bible plays an extremely important role.According to David Graddol's linguistic theory on standardization of languages,this version of the Bible makes its contribution to the establishment of standard English at least three aspects.Firstly,it pushes the codification of Modern English;second,it improves the expressive functions of the English language;and third,it promoted the currency and prevalence of Modern English:aspects which occurred in parallel and complemented each other.
