五四时期外国儿童文学汉译中的现代性想象研究

摘　　要：五四时期的中国启蒙思想者在实现现代性想象的过程中,不约而同地重视儿童文学翻译,构成了中国翻译史上的一大独特景观,然而学界对五四时期外国儿童文学汉译在中国现代性进程中的重要意义一直缺乏应有的认识。本文结合现代性的指涉对象,将现代性想象具体为现代国家、现代国民和现代文学三方面,并在此基础上探讨了五四时期外国儿童文学汉译的现代性特质。研究发现,五四时期外国儿童文学汉译在译介动因、译介选材、译介策略等各方面都具有现代性想象的深层实质,不仅承载着知识分子视人为国之根本、视儿童为国之未来、视教育为国之重心的现代国家想象,凝聚着其以赤子之心、世界视野和独立精神为核心的现代国民想象,还是现代文学革命的重要组成部分,对推动文学语言、文学内容和文学体裁的现代性转化发挥了重要作用。In the transition to China's modernity during the May Fourth Period,Chinese enlightenment thinkers placed great emphasis on the translation of foreign children's literature,marking a distinctive moment in the history of Chinese translation.The academic discourse,however,has yet to fully recognize the pivotal role of children's literature translation in the development of China's modernity during this period.Grounded in the theoretical framework of modernization,this paper adopts,as a critical lens,the categorization of literary imaginings of Chinese modernity into three dimensions:the modern state,modern people,and modern literature.This lens provides a means through which to examine and re-assess the modern characteristics of children's literature translation during the May Fourth Period.This paper shows that,in terms of translational background,content,and impact,the translation of children's literature in this period profoundly embodies the imagination of modernity.Specifically,children's literature collectively develops and expresses an imaginary vision of a modern state that regards "people" as its foundation,children as its future,and education as its cornerstone.Within this envisioned state,children's literature reflects and promotes the modern movement's emphasis on a social future by imagining modern individuals as being characterized by purity of heart,a global perspective,and independent spirit.By analyzing how children's literature imagines children as foundational to a modern future,this paper highlights its influence during the modern literary revolution in helping transform the literary language,content,and genres.
