副文本与知识生产:梅维恒《庄子》英译的知识建构

摘  要:《庄子》是道家学派的典籍,也是中国传统文化的载体。梅维恒的《庄子》译本通过添加各类副文本,竭力构建了原作的历史文化语境,向西方读者传递了丰富的中国传统文化知识,是具有文化研究意义的经典译本。文章基于知识翻译学,以副文本为研究对象,分析了梅维恒对与《庄子》相关的历史知识、主题知识、典故知识等人文知识的建构与生产。研究发现,梅维恒构建文化知识的方式有三个特点,即简明扼要、生动形象、基于中西文化共同点。总之,梅译本对文化知识的建构极具通俗性,便于西方读者理解,符合知识翻译学“以善立义”的原则。Zhuangzi is not only a classic work of Taoism,but also the carrier of Chinese traditional culture.Mair’s translation is a translation classic with rich cultural meaning,which constructs the historical and cultural context of Zhuangzi and convoys the knowledge of traditional culture to English readers through paratext.Based on transknowletology,the paper analyzes the production of the historical knowledge,the knowledge of Zhuangzi’s subject and the knowledge of allusion in the paratext of Mair’s translation.It is found in this study that there are three ways to product the knowledge in the paratext of Mair’s translation.They are conciseness,vividity and the similarities between Chinese and English culture.In a word,Mair’s paratext makes English readers know about the knowledge of Chinese traditional culture easily,which fulfills the principle of“expressiveness”in transknowletology.
