Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)is a chronic,progressive,immune-mediated intestinal disease for which there is no cure and the pathogenesis is unclear. In recent years, potential treatment modalities for IBD have been continuously explored. With the continuous progress of precision medicine,it has become an international hotspot to explore new directions of IBD treatment in terms of regeneration of damaged cells, repair of intestinal mucosa and barrier, intestinal microorganisms and their metabolites, and drug delivery systems, which will make up for the shortcomings of the current treatment options and provide more choices for patients. At present, the potential therapeutic modalities have not yet reached a consensus on the mechanism of action, standardization of use, safety, efficacy evaluation, etc.,and need to be further researched. This article reviewed the current potential therapeutic modalities and their mechanism of action in IBD.
