Cervical cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors among women worldwide. The progression of cervical lesions typically follows a sequence from chronic cervicitis to cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and ultimately to cervical cancer.Persistent infection with high-risk human papillomavirus is considered the primary biological cause of the development and progression of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, and the balance of the vaginal microbiome is closely related to this process.Recent studies have shown that vaginal microecological imbalance may lead to vaginal epithelial damage and trigger related inflammatory responses, thereby increasing the risk of human papilloma virus infection and further exacerbating the progression of cervical lesions.Additionally, varying degrees of cervical lesions can alter the quantity and composition of vaginal microbial communities, disrupting the microecological balance. This creates a vicious cycle between the two. This article aims to summarize and analyze recent research on the correlation between vaginal microecology and the development and progression of cervical lesions, with the goal of providing new insights and theoretical foundations for the prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of cervical cancer.
