摘 要:本文运用汉英音韵对比的研究成果对中国传统翻译标准观进行了评价 ,并对风格的可译与不可译问题进行了探讨。文章区分了“不可译”与“风格不可译”两个概念 ,指出翻译是可行的 ,但风格不可译。“信达雅”由于不要求译文在语言形式和神韵上切合原文而显得更加现实。“信达雅”的实质就是 :用能够使译入语读者产生美感的语言形式充分表达原文内容 ,它要求译文应该在忠实原作内容的基础上 ,重形式而不重形似 ,重神韵而不重神似。By applying what has been achieved in C-E contrastive phonology, the paper makes an evaluation about China's traditional views upon translation criterion, and then an exploration about translatability and untranslatability. By distinguishing between untranslatability and stylistic untranslatability, the paper points out that though translation is possible, verve or style is untranslatable. Yan Fu's three-character criterion, i.e., “faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance, is more realistic and practical than the others, for it makes no such requirement that the translation be as close as possible to its original in language form and in style. Its essence is to express to the full the original's content with a TL form that can give the TL readership sensuous pleasure. Such a criterion requires that in translation emphasis be laid upon the language form of the translated text but not upon pursuing its similarity in language form to the original; and accordingly, emphasis be laid upon the verve of the translated text but not upon pursuing its similarity in verve to the original.
