In order to investigate the epidemiology of canine parvovirus-2 (CPV-2) in Mudanjiang area of Heilongjiang Province, a total of 40 stool samples were collected from dogs with diarrhea in Mudanjiang area of Heilongjiang Province from May 2014 to April 2015. The presence of CPV-2 in the samples was determined by PCR amplification of the partial VP2 gene (568 bp). The results revealed that 20 samples (50%) were positive for CPV-2, of which types of new 2a (Ser297Ala) and 2c accounted for 75% (15/20) and 25% (5/20), respectively. Sequence analysis revealed that 20 CPV-2 strains identified in our study showed 98.6%-100% nucleotide identity and 98.2%-100% amino acid identity. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the identified 20 CPV-2 strains formed a specific group (A) with Chinese reference CPV-2 strains, of which the new 2a strains were divided into different clusters, when compared with CPV-2 reference strains from other countries. These data suggested that CPV-2 showed high prevalence in dogs with diarrhea in Mudanjiang area of Heilongjiang Province.
