In the Mesozoic, numerous epi byssate and cemented marine bivalves were distributed in the following three patterns. 1) Global distribution: Many bivalves, such as Halobia including the Late Triassic Carnian Norian Halobia austriaca Mojsiscovics, Early Jurassic Hettangian Early Cretaceous Valanginian Camptonectes (Camptonectes) auritus (von Schlotheim) and Early Jurassic Hettangian Late Jurassic Tithonian (=Volgian) Chlamys (Chlamys) tetoria (von Schlotheim), almost occupied almost all of the world. 2) Antitropical distribution: Lots of bivalves, e.g. Late Jurassic Oxfordian Praebuchia kirghisensis (Sokolow), Early Kimmeridgian Buchia concentrica (J. de C. Sowerby), Late Kimmeridgian Middle Volgian Buchia mosquensis (von Buch), Kimmeridgian Tithonian Buchia spitiensis (Holdhaus) (= Buchia subspitiensis Krumbeck) and Buchia blanfordiana (Stoliczka); Early Cretaceous latest Middle Barremian Middle Albian Aucellina caucasica (von Buch) and Aucellina aptiensis (d'Orbigny) and Albian Aucellina gryphaeoides (J. de C. Sowerby) (= Aucellina coquandiana d'Orbigny) had a bipolar distribution. 3) Pan tropical distribution: A number of bivalves including Jurassic ostreids such as Actinostreon gregareum (J. Sowerby), Liostrea birmanica Reed, Gryphaea (Bilobissa) bilobata J. de C. Sowerby, Nanogyra nana (J. Sowerby) and Eligmus rollandi Douville were only limited between palaeo latitudes 60°north and south. All these bivalves have large planktotrophic larval shells, and byssal notches or attachment areas. These features have demonstrated that the bivalves underwent a plankton life during their larval stage, and they attached to the movable objects including driftwoods, cephalopods, ecnoids and the others to disperse with oceanic currents in the post larval stage. Through the plankton and pseudoplankton, along the oceanic currents, continental margins, island chains, and even the getways of deep sea, the real cosmopolitans could colonize
