The agro-pasture ecotone is distributed in some regions of Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Jilin, Hebei, Shaaxi and Shanxi provinces as well as Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. In the ecotone, the land productive forces are reduced and the land degradation occurs due to the irrational economic activities and the vulnable ecological environment in these regions. This paper analyzes the land desertification mechanism in Songyuan City in the eastern agro-pasture ecotone, it is considered that the natural environmental factors are only necessary conditions of the land desertification, the evolution of land desertification depends mainly on human activities, and depends on what land use mode is taken in this region. It is suggested to start with the fine economic returns and develop the efficient ecological land use mode by rationally distributing the forest types and the trees species, constructing the artificial grasslands, etc. Thus, the sand-fixing systems with the fine economic returns can be set up, and the efficient ecological agriculture in the eastern agro-pasture ecotone can be developed. It is the key to develop the industry in the sandland areas by fully utilize the resources in the desertified regions for the residents to shake off poverty and build up a fortune and to achieve the regional sustainable development in the eastern agro-pasture ecotone.
