Aim: In order to explore epileptogenesis and its interfering factors, we made a pentylenetertrazol-kindling cat of epileptic model. Methods: Pentylenetetrazol (PTZ 25 mg·kg-1 muscular injection im, daily) was used to kindle male adult cats. The behavior of cats was observed every day for three hours, and EEG under the anesthesia by ketamine hydrochloride (25 mg·kg-1, im) was carried out once a week. Results: The progressive behavior stages of kindling were respectively recorded while using PTZ at lweek,2 week, 16th days and 20th days, ipsilateral or bilateral facial contraction, head vertical movements, generalized myoclonias of the four limbs, and generalized tonic-clonic convulsive seizures. The EEC of respective stage of kindling was asymmetric sporadic spike of forehead, symmetric raulti-spike-wave, sharp wave with slow rhythm, more unregular 8 wave and S wave with paroxysmal spike wave. Conclusion: Our results demonstrated that the epileptic model of PTZ-kindling cat is a good epileptic model with typica EEG and seizure representation at different stage of kindling. The behovior and EEg of this model is more similar to human focal seizure with secondary generalized tonic clonic epilepsy.
