摘　　要：新西兰作家约翰·马尔根的长篇小说《孤独的人》是一部描写小人物遭遇的作品。小说不仅反映了动荡年代里的新西兰全貌 ,同时深刻揭示了人的精神困境 ,堪称新西兰批判现实主义的代表作 ,也是马尔根的唯一作品。正是这部作品使作者与另一名作家弗兰克·萨吉森齐名 ,成为新西兰新兴的民族文学的代言人。John Mulgan became the key personnel in the literary world of New Zealand in 1930's when his novel 'Man Alone' was published. 'Man Alone', his only novel and the representative work of critical realism in New Zealand, reflects the whole picture of New Zealand in turbulent years as well as reveals the spiritual dilemma of the human beings, which enabled him to be the mouthpiece of the newly rising national literature of New Zealand.
