Objectives]To investigate the effects of small intestinal submucosa on healing of rat skin wounds.Full skin lossing models of SD rats were established and their small intestinal submucosa tablets were prepared. Forty-eight SD rats were divided randomly into 3 groups, each included 16 rats: Group A,skin wounds were bound up with small intestinal submucosa ; Group B, bound up with iodoform vaseline gauze; Group C, served as blank controls. Specimens were collected from the wounds at several stages, the healing process in 3 groups was observed grossly and histologically. The small intestinal submucosa adhered to the wound did not cause immune reaction and infection. As for the speed of healing, wound under small intestinal submucosa was the fastest, then under the iodoform vaseline gauze, blank controls came to the last. Scars were not found around the wounds bound up with small intestinal submucosa and the skin accessories also grew well ; while the wounds in rest two groups were healed with scars and the skin accessories only grew on the margins of wounds.[Conclusion]Small intestinal submucosa can eliminate inflammation , promote growth of granulation tissue and epithelium tissue. Furthermore, the treated wounds heal without scars.
