基于平行文本的地域类高校名称英译

摘　　要：本文主要探讨含有城市名,省、自治区名,大区域名等多类汉语地域类高校名称的英译问题。基于英语译文与同类型英语原文系平行文本的设想,通过分析英美高校英语原名文本和国内高质量高校名称译文文本,确立了地域类高校英语名称的文本特征体系。对照这个体系,论文建议按照英语语用习惯来选择英译名;同时也对与行政区域名不一致的高校名称英译也进行了讨论,建议当行政区域名发生变动时,对应的地域名高校名称英译时要及时调整,以取得高效翻译效果。This paper discussed how to translate into English the names for China universities and colleges with regional names, including the names for cities, provinces, autonomous regions, and larger regions. Based on the assumption that English translations are parallel to English original texts of the same type, it analyzed the original English names for British and American universities and the effective English translations of the names for the regional universities in China, and constructed a system of textual features of English names for regional universities. In line with the system, it suggested that the English translations of Chinese university names should be selected according to the pragmatic habits of English, and that the names of colleges and universities that are inconsistent with the names of administrative regions should be translated into English according to its Chinese name. It also proposed that the corresponding regional name in universities should be adjusted in time to achieve effective translations when the administrative region name changes.
