摘 要:诅咒语是一个文化中不可缺少的一部分,但由于其本身具有的禁忌性,长久以来国内外很少有人研究及讨论诅咒文化,相应的文献资料也很少。因此,关于诅咒语翻译的探讨就更加稀缺。鉴于此,本文从语言与文化研究入手,主要从文化角度讨论了诅咒语的翻译及其带来的文化效应。通过对比霍克斯和杨宪益夫妇翻译的两版《红楼梦》,笔者探讨霍克斯采用的直译方法和杨宪益夫妇采用的意译方法及其各自的表达效果。希望这篇关于语言翻译的分析能让更多的国内外译者有所收获。Swearing is an indispensable part of culture. Due to its taboo feature, very few people both home and abroad have studied and discussed swearing culture for a long time, and correspondingly, there are very few relevant written materials. Therefore, discussions about the translation of swear words are even scarcer. In view of this, this article starts from language and cultural studies and discusses the phenomenon of dirty language translation and its cultural influence from the angle of culture. By comparing the two versions of A Dream of Red Mansions by Hawkes and Yang Xianyi, I will discuss Hawkes’ literal translation and Yang Xianyi’s liberal translation and their effects. I hope that the analysis of language translation can help readers gain a wider range of knowledge about the translation of Chinese and foreign cultures.
