摘 要:科技英语中存在大量模糊限制语,其英译成为译者面临的难点之一。本文从科技英语中模糊限制语的特征入手,以《未来五百年:迈向太空的生命之旅》为例,借用Hyland和Varttala关于模糊限制语的分类,探究科技英语中模糊限制语显化翻译策略。结果发现,科技英语中模糊限制语具有间接性、缓和性和不确定性等特征,可以采取全显化翻译策略、部分显化翻译策略和零显化翻译策略翻译科技英语的模糊限制语。In scientific and technical English, a significant challenge faced by translators pertains to an abundance of hedging. This paper commences by exploring the inherent characteristics of hedging within scientific and technical English. Drawing upon the comprehensive defining examples proposed by Hyland and Varttala, with translation instances derived from The Next Five Hundred Years: Engineering Life to Reach New Worlds, it is aimed at introducing translation strategies employed to effectively deal with hedging. This paper has found that hedging in scientific and technical English is distinguished by its indirectness, mitigation, and uncertainty. In light of this, such explicitation translation strategies as full, partial, and zero explicitation translation could be available to translators for converting hedging in the scientific and technical text.
