摘　　要：本文对刘绍忠所作的“请”字用法汉英对比分析提出了质疑。作者认为，“请”和please只有作为敬辞使用时才具有可比性。论文从句法、语义、语用等不同层面探讨了“请”和please的异同，提出制约“请”和please使用频率的是不同文化的礼貌原则。This paper questions the validity of LIU Shao-zhong's comparative analysis of qing and "please", arguing that qing and "please" are only comparable when both are used as politeness markers. While offering an analysis on syntactic, semantic and pragmatic levels, the paper holds the view that the governing rules which constrain the use of qing and "please" are the politeness principles in different cultures.
