摘　　要：翻译家个案分析是翻译史及翻译研究的一个重要内容。Burton Watson(华兹生)是20世纪英译中国古典文学作品最多产的美国翻译家及汉学家。他的译笔流畅自然、娴雅精练,可读性很强,在向西方普通英语读者普及中国典籍方面做出了重要贡献,也为翻译研究积累了重要的实证语料。文章以描写译学研究派的假设——"规范"的"习得"与"内化"是在译者"社会化"过程中形成的命题为框架,分析了译者"社会化"是如何影响Watson"习得"与"内化"中国历史典籍英译的语言"规范"的。Analysis of the translator's individual case is an essential part of translation history research and translation studies.Burton Watson is considered to be the most prolific translator of Chinese literature in the 20th century.His highly readable translations in a fluent,natural and elegant style have been very instrumental in introducing Chinese classics to the western general readership.Employing Watson's translation practice in translating Chinese historical classics as empirical data and the framework of the descriptive translation studies -the acquisition and internalization of norms by a translator,is materialized in the process of socialization as a model,this paper explores how socialization serves as a facilitator in Watson's formulation of linguistic norms in translating Chinese classics into English.
