摘　　要：在乔伊斯的作品中,一大艺术特色就是其对象征这一写作方法的灵活使用。《阿拉比》是乔伊斯短篇小说集《都柏林人》中的一篇,故事简单却含有深刻的象征寓意,深刻揭示了20世纪初都柏林社会的精神瘫痪。本文拟从象征手法的运用来深入挖掘该作品的隐义效果。Symbol is a prominent artistic feature in James Joyce’s works.Araby is taken from a collection of short stories entitled The Dubliners.This story on the surface is bland but contains profound symbolic meanings,which reveals the social spiritual paralysis in Dublin in the early 20th century.This article tends to unearth the hidden meanings’ effects of the story from the application of symbol.
