摘　　要：隐喻是一种思维方式,英语习语是隐喻性的语言表达方式,概念隐喻是英语习语语义的重要理据,本文阐释了隐喻认知的本质、机制和功能,指出英语习语的语义是有理据和动因的,概念隐喻是人们理解习语语义的理据基础。Metaphor is a way of thinking,language is based on metaphor.English idiom is a kind of metaphorical language expression.Conceptual metaphor is one of the causes of English idioms.The paper examines the nature,mechanism and functions of metaphor,and points out that meanings of English idioms are by no means arbitrary,but are motivated by the combination of conceptual metaphors.
