摘　　要：新加坡是一个多民族,多语言的国家。自从摆脱英国殖民主义统治以来,新加坡政府对国内各民族语言的社会功能进行了明确的分工。从历史和社会的角度出发,规定了马来语为国语,新加坡国歌“MajuraSingapura”就是用马来语创作的。同时,新加坡又规定了英语、华语。The fundamental principle behind the Standard Singapore English development is that an endonor-mative standard rather than an exonormative one should be adopted so that, besides its international intelligibility, Standard Singapore English can reflect its local characteristics. The present article aims at discussing the principles of developing Standard Singapore English and the peculiarities that this local English displays in use.
