摘　　要：论文对高等教育自学考试的本质属性、规模、质量和发展方向四个根本问题进行了讨论。这些问题关注自学考试制度是什么、怎么样和去向何方,是理论研究者和实践工作者无法回避并且要首先回答的问题。The article discusses such four essential issues as the nature, the scale, the quality and the future development of the self-taught higher education examinations. These issues, concerning what the system is and how it will develop, are the critical questions the researchers and practioners have to face and answer firstly.
