摘　　要：自由教育是西方古老而恒久的教育传统,代表了一种非功利、致力于人的精神和心灵自由发展的永恒的教育哲学和理想。基于不同历史条件和人类知识发展状况,西方在教育目的、对象和学习内容等方面对这一传统进行了不同诠释。在中世纪、文艺复兴时期、19世纪和20世纪上半叶,西方自由教育传统发生过多次重大转向和历史演变,并表现出对古希腊传统背离和复归的双重趋势。Liberal education was an old western educational tradition,representing an eternal and non-utilitarian educational philosophy and ideal devoting to the development of spirit and mind.With the changing of historical conditions and the accumulation of human knowledge,there were different interpretations about the aim,object and content of liberal education tradition.Many important shifts occurred in the western historical education tradition in the Middle Ages,Renaissance,the 19 th century and the half of 20 th century,which showed the dual trend of deviation and regression of the ancient Greek tradition.
