摘  要:本文从希拉克信函翻译的分析入手,阐述语言翻译同职业翻译的差别,说明不同层次的翻译不仅有不同的功能和作用,而且思维模式存在差异。语言翻译停留在语言涵义的对应层次,语言教学旨在培养语言能力。职业翻译寻求语篇意义的对等,其教学是借助语言能力训练翻译技能。语言翻译只要求语言能力,职业翻译除语言能力外,还需要相应的认知知识和思维综合能力。语言教学不是翻译教学,不能替代翻译教学。This paper based on the analysis of translating the Chirac,s letter, looks at the difference be-tween linguistic translation and professional translation, explains that different translation have not onlydifferent functions and effects, but also different mode of thinking. Linguistic translation stops at the levelof linguistic competence. Professional translation, however, seeks textual equivalence in meaning, and itsteaching aims at translation skills training through linguistic competence. Linguistic translation requiresonly linguistic competence, whereas professional translation demands not only linguistic competence, butalso appropriate cognitive knowledge and sophisticated thinking. Therefore, language teaching is differentfrom translation teaching, and it should not replace the latter.
