如何处理汉英翻译中的社会指示语

摘　　要：汉英两种语言系统在许多方面存在着差异，社会指示便是其中一个方面。相比之下，汉语有各种各样的社会指示，而英语只有两种很不典型的社会指示，严格地说是没有社会指示的。这表明与汉语相比，英语中存在社会指示的空缺，这一空缺使得英译难以保存汉语社会指示语中的文化因素，因此所采取的方法应该是语用上的。本文分三种不同情况提出了具体的话用方法。The Chinese language and English language , which belong to two different language systerns,differ in many aspects. heial deictics is one of the mpects. Comparatively. in Chinese there are various kinds of social deictics while in English there are only two kinds of non - typical axial deictics, or nosocial deictics in strict sense. This fact shows that there is a gap of axial deictics in English as compared with Chinese. The gap makes it difficult to preserve cultural factors of Chinese social deictics in Chinese - English translation. As a result, the approaches to be taken should be pragrnatic. In this paper a classification of three different situations is made. and to each situation specific pragnatic approaches are advanced.
