香港一些地名用字考  

On Chinese Characters in the Place Names of Hong Kong Yue Dialect

摘　　要：香港的地名没有标准用字,人们往往拿音近或义近的字来录写地名。如“埔”与“步”、“埗、“埠”相通,“涌”与“冲”相通。“鰂”鱼涌“鰂”的本字是“鱡”,而大刀“(山刃)”的“(山刃)”应是古韵书中的“(山刃)”。这种现象提供了很多宝贵的方言俗字的语料,帮助我们进一步了解方言与汉字使用的演变情况。Because of non-standard Chinese characters in the place names of Hong Kong Yue dialect,people often use synonyms or homophones to transcribe the spoken place names into written forms,such as 埔 instead of 步埗埠,and 涌 instead of 鲗 originated from (?) and 岃 originated from 屻 This provides valuable dialectal word data for us to further understand the changes of Chinese dialects and Chinese characters.
