摘 要:安乐哲与郝大维的《中庸》英译本对于揭示该著作所蕴含的整体性的和动态的世界观极具深意。通过用过程语言来诠释《中庸》 ,以取代以往译者使用的实体语言 ,《中庸》的核心命题 ,即将人作为与天地参的宇宙共创者卓立起来的意图 ,才能充分地展现在英文读者面前。然而 ,安乐哲与郝大维对形上学的强调 ,却也遮蔽了《中庸》里一个重要的层面———功夫指导的层面。在本文中 ,作者首先通过讨论安乐哲与郝大维对《中庸》的核心概念“中”、“庸”和“诚”的翻译 ,来说明其对他们的诠释的保留 ,然后说明 ,虽然他们的译著未能揭示这一功夫的层面 ,却为此奠定了重要的基础。The English translation and articulation of the Zhongyong—Focusing the Falimiar—by Roger Ames and David Hall makes a significant contribution for revealing the holistic and dynamic worldview entailed in the book. Only though using process oriented terms to replace the substance oriented terms for interpreting the Zhongyong, can the central messages of the book, namely, advocating humans as co-creators of the universe, become fully available to English readers. Yet their emphasis on metaphysics eclipses an important dimension of the book—the “gongfu” instruction dimension. In this paper, the author first addresses his concern with regard to the gongfu dimension by discussing their translation of the key terms of the book, namely “zhong,” “yong,” and “cheng.” Then he shows that their work, though falls short of revealing this dimension, has laid the groundwork for taking this further step.
