摘　　要：文章着重考察了“和谐”的原初字义及其在中国早期社会中的语用,同时比照古代希腊关于“和谐”一词的语义及其语用,阐明“和谐”无论从人类个体发展还是社会历史进步的角度,都是文明的一种尺度,这一命题在我们构建和谐社会的理论思考和实际工作中将有重要的意义。This paper mainly investigates the original meaning and linguistic function of the word “harmony” in the early society of China. Meanwhile, the paper comparatively studies its meaning and function in the ancient Greece. It is made quite clear that the word “harmony” is a dimension of civilization whether seen from the angle of individual development of human beings or from the perspective of the social historical progress. This theme, which is of great significance, can serve as our guide to action when we reflect on and undertake substantial work concerning the construction of a harmonious society.
