摘  要:本文从历史比较语言学的角度论证了英汉两种语言正处于“形合”—“意合”的互动进程之中,“形合”与“意合”在英汉两种语言中只是“量”而非“质”的区别。根据“语言沉淀着民族的文化底蕴”和“语言凸显说话者的推理和思维方式”这两条原理,翻译家应当尽量在译文中保留源语言的表达方式,以吸取他人之长补己之短。文章一方面指出我国学者在研究“形合”—“意合”现象时拿原文与译文对比的方法错误以及在探索“形合”—“意合”形成因素上缺乏科学依据的臆断性,一方面对翻译理论家试图用本族语的思维模式替代外来思维模式以致阻碍语言结构良性变化的现状深感忧虑。From the historical - comparative linguistic point of view, the paper demonstrates that both English and Chinese are in an interactive two - way change of hypotaxis vs. parataxis and that difference of either hypotaxis or parataxis in both languages is merely a quantitative rather than a qualitative one. In accordance with the principles that languages are deposited with the national cultural traits and that languages are manifest of speakers' modes of logical deduction and thought, translators should try their best to retain the original' s peculiar ways of thought expressing in their translated versions so as to learn from others' strong points to make up for our deficits. While pointing out a methodological malpractice of comparing the original with the translated version rather than with writings of the same kind in the target language and the unscientific speculation about the root causes for this linguistic phenomenon of hypotaxis vs. parataxis, the author is deeply worried that some translation theorists are actually attempting to obstruct this benign interactive structural change by deliberately adopting their own native mode of thinking in place of the alien one.
