摘　　要：对《鹿鼎记》英译本的样本研究表明：“归化”翻译还将是一种主要趋势和整体策略。其依据是基于对翻译实践的客观描述——包括翻译的功能／目的与译者翻译观、翻译实践中的决策、翻译规范／标准等；更为重要的是文化相异性的可接受性对于文化交流之有效性。“归化”处理后能否赢得英文读者，最终取决于作品所表现的主人公和文化在目的语文化系统中能否得到认同。The study of the samples selected from the English translation of Mr. Luis Cha＇s The Deer and the CauMron demonstrates that de mesticating translation will continue to persist and serve as the overall strategy for long in cross-cultural communication. The conclusion reached is based on the objective description of translation practice, which includes the function /purpose of translation,and translators＇ views on tran^ation,the decision- making in translation practice,and translation norms /standards. And it is more important to point out that the acceptability of cultural differences depends on the effectivity of cros-cultural communication. Nevertheless,whether The Deerand the Cauldron can win the Englishreadership is ultimately determined by whether the hero and the culture depicted in the novel are identified in the target culture system.
