英语隐喻词汇的婚俗文化解读

摘　　要：本文解读了若干英语隐喻词汇所蕴涵的婚姻习俗。概括起来有抢婚习俗、挑选男傧相习俗、订婚和结婚送戒指习俗、门当户对习俗、女子戴帽子追求男子习俗、“打结”习俗、度蜜月习俗、强制婚姻习俗和结婚周年纪念习俗。学习和掌握英语隐喻词汇不仅能提高人的语言能力,而且能增强人的文化素养,而文化素养的增强又能进一步促进语言能力的提高。This paper explains the marriage customs implied by a number of English metaphorical words or phrases. They refer to customs about a bridegroom＇s kidnapping his bride, the selecting of best man, the sending of engagement ring or wedding ring, being well-matched in social and economic status, girls＇ paying court to men by wearing beautiful caps, tying of the knot, honeymooning, compulsory marriage and celebrating wedding anniversaries. The author believes that learning and mastering English metaphorical words or phrases can improve not only the learner＇s linguistic competence but also his or her cultural accomplishments, and the improvement of the latter can further improve the former.
