论男孩和狮子在《老人与海》中的作用

摘　　要：《老人与海》是美国作家海明威的一部杰作。主人公的"硬汉"形象为众多的评论家所青睐,而小说中的"男孩"和"狮子"却很少受到重视。这两个形象对老人"硬汉"形象的成功塑造起着至关重要的作用:前者使老人"硬汉"形象更为丰满,而后者则使"硬汉"精神得以升华。Ever since the publication of The old Man and the Sea,one of Hemingway＇s masterpieces,the ＂tough character＂ of the old man,the protagonist of the novel,has become the focus of the discussion of numerous critics,while ＂the boy＂ and ＂the lion＂,two seemingly ＂minor＂ characters,received little attention.This paper finds that both of them actually play an important role in the novel：one helping make the old man a round character and the other sublimating his tough character spirit.
