Zen is rooted in China and it has become one of the most influential foreign elements to the Japan culture. The evidence showing the strong cultural influence of the Zen in Japan can be sifted out in the Japanese language. Japanese Chinese Character pronunciation system, Japanese words with Chinese representation, all of these had been continuously influenced by Zen in the ancient times. In contemporary Japanese, there are still quite a few common words whose sources can be tracked back to Zen and Zen-related culture.
