摘　　要：从跨文化交际学的角度解读华裔作家谭恩美的作品《喜福会》,以跨文化交际学的几个主要理论为依据来解释小说中母女间随处可见的感情冲突、误解和文化误读,并以此为契机来探讨第一代和第二代华裔美国人的文化身份,即探讨在他们看来,美国社会是大熔炉还是沙拉碗。From the perspective of intercultural communication, the Joy Luck Club, written by Chinese American writer Amy Tan, is discussed in this paper. Several leading theories of intercultural communication are used to explain the emotional conflicts and cultural misunderstanding between mothers, the first generation of Chinese Americans and their daughters, the second generation. Based on the above the paper furthers with the discussion of cultural identity of the two generations, and with the answer to the question： As to them, is American society a melting pot or salad bowl？
