摘　　要：功能性言语是作者在表达命题态度、写作意图和读者期望时所运用的话语,它可以帮助作者组织语篇、传递信息并引导读者理解语篇内容,对于它的研究可以采用功能、语用和认知等多维度视角。虽然对于它的定义、分类至今还没有统一的标准,但越来越多的国内外学者开始关注这一语言现象,并把对它的研究成果应用到语言研究的多个领域。Metadiscourse is a cluster of linguistic expressions used by writers to express the propositional attitude,their intentions and readers＇ expectation. The use of metadiscourse can help writers to organize the text, express information and direct readers to understand the text. A multi - dimensional approach can be employed to study metadiscourse. Although there is no agreement among scholars on the definition and taxonomy of metadiscourse, scholars from abroad and China have been paying attention to the study of it and have applied the research results to many different fields.
