[Objective] This study aimed to explore the expression of AKT/mTOR (Protein kinase B/mammalian target of rapamycin) signal pathway in laryngeal squamous cell cancer and the relationship between the expression with the clinical and pathological factors in laryngeal cancer. [Method] The expression of p-AKT and p-mTOR in laryngeal cancer (84 cases), paracancer (24 cases) and normal mucosa tissues (20 cases) were measured by immunohistochemical test, and then their relationship with clinical and pathological factors were analyzed. [Result] The expression of p-AKT in laryngeal cancer, paracancer and normal mucosa tissues were 78.3%, 29.2%, and 25%, respectively. And the expression of p-mTOR were 76.4%, 50%, and 20%, respectively. The expression of AKT/mTOR signal pathway decreased gradually in these specimens. The expression of p-AKT and p-mTOR in laryngeal cancer were positively relative. Furthermore, the expression of this signal pathway was negatively associated with the pathological differentiation degree. [Conclusion] AKT/mTOR signal pathway over expressed in most of laryngeal cancer. It may play an important role in occurrence and development of laryngeal cancer.
