摘　　要："美育"一词,古已有之。然而作为现代意义的"美育"一词,则是西方舶来品。德国诗人席勒最早使用,曾留学德国的蔡元培译介到中国,国学大师王国维深入研究,全面挖掘探索意旨,使美育逐渐深入人心;教育家蔡元培在民国初登高疾呼,大力推进美育的实施,终于使美育发挥着越来越大的改造社会的作用。Aesthetic Education has a long history, yet the term ＂aesthetic education＂ with modem significance was adopted from the West. The term was first employed by German poet Schiller and introduced to China by overseas student Cai Yuanpei. Wang Guowei probed into the implications of the aesthetic education and Cai Yuanpei advocated the implementation of aesthetic education in the early period of Republic of China, which exerted great influence on the social reconstruction.
