摘　　要：语域理论是韩礼德系统功能语言学中的重要理论之一。本文试图运用语域理论来分析毛姆的短篇小说"AFriend in Need",从而探讨语场、语旨和语式对记叙文人物刻画的价值。通过从以上三个方面分析,文章认为作者在刻画人物时选择不同的语体或语域,准确地体现创作意图,增强作品的感染力。The register theory is one of the most important parts of Halliday＇s Systemic and Functional Linguistics. The paper attempts to apply the register theory to the analysis of Somerset Maugham＇s ＂A Friend in Need＂ to discuss the value of the register theory in the analysis of narrative characterization. It is concluded that different registers are adopted for different characters to embody the writer＇s intention and strengthen the artistic appeal.
