摘　　要：衡阳市城镇社会公众信息素质现状的调查显示,我国城镇社会公众的信息意识不强,信息能力不高,计算机和网络应用能力较低,公众信息素质存在明显的年龄、学历、职业差异。社会公众信息素质教育是一个系统工程,需要构建相应的政策、经费保障机制和教育保障体系,充分发挥公共图书馆的主导作用,制订科学的培训方案,以全面、有效地提高社会公众的信息素质。The survey of public information literacy in Hengyang reveals as follows： the public information awareness is weak; the information ability is poor; the capability of using computer and network is low; the public information literacy has apparent difference in age, educational background and profession. The public information literacy education is a systematic project, which needs corresponding policy and financial security mechanism and education security system. During this process, public libraries should play a leading role and make scientific training scheme, in order to promote public information literacy comprehensively and effectively.
