摘　　要：战争不仅催毁了西方林立的高楼，使漂亮的城市变成废墟，而且也摧毁了现代人的信仰和追求，使人们的心灵变成了一片荒漠。象许多迷惘中的年轻一代一样，《乞力马扎罗的雪》中的主人公哈里因为“丧失了生活的意义”，他“为了要从头开始”去追寻生活的意义，却因一次偶然的腿部的擦伤不得不遭遇死亡。在这篇《乞力马扎罗的雪》中，作者要呈现给我们的是一代人的生存状态：迷惘的追求，无果的挣扎。哈里的追寻和挣扎代表了一个时代的人甚至整个人类精神追寻的历程。The war destroyed not only the buildings and made the beautiful cities turn into ruins, but also the faith and pursuit of modern people, and made the people＇s mind become a kind of nothingness. Like many youth of Lost Generation, the hero, Harry, in The Snows of Kilimanjaro wanted to pursuit ＂a new meaning of life＂ because of ＂losing the meaning of life＂. However, he died from an incident in which he hurt his leg. In The Snows of Kilimanjaro, the author wanted to present to us a generation＇ s existence： Perplexedly pursue and fruitless pursuit. Harry＇ s pursuit and struggle represented the struggle and pursuit of a generation and even the whole humankind.
