摘　　要：英语研究是关于"任何英语文本的生成与分析"的探究,其核心部分是文学批评。英语研究的兴起是20世纪之交英国知识界的盛事,与其相伴而生的是英国文学批评的理论化与职业化。英语研究的兴起和英国民族自尊的提升以及英国大学的现代化进程紧密相联,英国文学和"国学"的不解之缘在英语兴起的进程中得以体现。English studies are the exploration of ＂the production and analysis of any English text＂, whose core is none other than literary criticism. The rise of English studies is one of the greatest events in UK at the turn of the twentieth century, with which the theorization and professionalisation of British Literary Criticism concurs. The rise of English studies is regarded as the promotion of national pride of English people and is closely related to the modernization of universities in UK. The affinity of English literature to English studies is best reflected in the process of the rise of English studies.
