季羡林的“三十年河东”与“送去主义”

摘　　要：季羡林总结了几千年以来东西方四大文化体系互相间盛衰消长的历史经验,客观地分析了西方文化"天人二分"的分析思维模式,其理论基础是"争"。在给人类带来很多福利的同时,也带来了从环境污染到生态失衡等种种灾难。而东方文化"天人合一"的综合思维模式,其理论基础是"和",也就是顺从自然,与自然浑然一体,努力建构和谐的世界。季羡林在这个基础上,用宏观的历史眼光,作出东西方文化变迁"三十年河东,三十年河西"这样的前瞻性科学论断,并称之为"东西方文化互补论",以实现东西方文化真正平等的交流。为此,他提出"送去主义",也谈及"拿来主义",目的是反对"欧洲中心主义",推动不是以谁为中心的"文化多元化",使东西方文化最终走向和谐与融合,创造新的文明,以造福人类。Mr. Ji Xianlin has summarized the historical experience of ups and downs of the four major cultures in the world over several thousand years in the past. He objectively analyzes the analytical mode of thinking of Occidental culture featured by ＂Man and nature are two different things＂. As it is based on ＂struggle＂,while it brings many material benefits to human beings,it brings about various disasters from pollution of surroundings to imbalance of ecology. In contrast,Oriental culture is characterized by synthetical mode of thinking,whose typical feature is ＂Man and nature are a harmonious unity＂. Its theoretical basis is harmony,which means that man should respect nature,and man and nature form an organic unity. That is why great efforts are being made to build up a harmonious world. Based on his studies of Oriental culture and Occidental culture,Mr Ji made a prospective inference concerning vicissitudes of Oriental and Occidental cultures： ＂Thirty years of boom to the east of the river＂ and ＂Thirty years of boom to the west of the river＂,which he referred to as mutual complementations of Occidental and Oriental cultures so as to realize truly equal exchange of the two cultures. That was why he proposed ＂exportism＂ and ＂importism＂,both of which were aimed against European Centerism and to pushi ahead cultural diversity so that both Oriental culture and Occidental culture may become integrated and that a new civilization may be created to benefit mankind.
