摘  要:根据生成整体论的语言观,语篇的整体功能和目标决定了其构成要素的表征和组合形式。一切言语活动总是倾向于既有功用性又有审美性。新闻语篇标题的审美选择中存在着美感的共通性和新闻审美领域的独特性,还与新闻作者"自由自觉"的审美判断具有密不可分的关系。《经济学家》的标题体现出英语新闻语篇标题的审美特点和刊物的风格,具有很强的实用性和审美性。In light of the generative holistic view of language, the general function and purpose of a text determines the representative features and constructional organization of its componential elements. All language activities tend to present both practical value and aesthetic value. The general aesthetic features are displayed in the aesthetic choice in news headlines, and meanwhile, there exists the aesthetic uniqueness of news writing, which is inseparable from the journalists' free and self-conscious aesthetic judgment. The headlines in The Economist manifest the aesthetic features of English news headlines and reflect the journal' s specific style, demonstrating strong practical value and aesthetic value.
