In Japanese, passive sentences are usually divided into direct passive sentences and indirect passive ones. Based on Deng Siying' s classification of Chinese passive sentences, Japanese passive sentences in this paper are further classified into long and short direct passive sentences and long and short indirect passive sentences. Also, according to the theory of ergativity, passive sentences in which Japanese intransitive verbs are used are called special indirect passive sentences. Both Japanese passive sentences marked with に. and Chinese passive sentences marked with 被 can be classified into long and short passive sentences. In the study of Japanese passive sentences, problems about the recognition of passive and agentive cases still exist. We believe that Gao Li' s hierarchy theory and Xu Lei' s viewpoints that first person cannot be used to be agentive are still open to discussion.
