摘　　要：翻译的各种定义反映了人们对翻译本质的不同认识,也反映了人们对翻译及其译者地位的审视。本文从历史的视角出发,从影响翻译过程和翻译结果的诸因素入手,对古今中外不同时期典型的翻译定义作了基本的梳理,旨在探讨翻译定义的嬗变所折射出的翻译与译者之地位及其使命的变化。The definitions of translation, one of the key issues of translation studies, reflect the understanding of the nature of translation on the one hand, and the statuses of both translation and translators on the other. Starting from the historical perspective and taking into account those factors concerning translation products as well as translating process, the paper reviews the many definitions of translation in China and abroad, and aims to investigate the changes in the positions and missions of translation and translators as indicated by those definitions.
