摘　　要：翻译家刘炳善在英国散文翻译实践中,认为散文翻译必须译性之所近之作,散文译者应具备坚实的文化基础与高度的责任感,散文风格翻译应细察原意并熔铸新词。他对散文翻译选材、散文译者素质以及散文风格翻译均提出了较为明确的观点,形成了系统的散文翻译思想,对我国译介英国散文具有重要的理论与实践意义。Liu Bingshan,a renowned translator of English essays,holds that essay translators had better choose to trans-late the work that they love.In his view,cultural training and sense of responsibility are of crucial importance in essay transla-tion,and essay translators should perceive original ideas attentively and cast new expressions creatively.Thus Liu’s systematic theory of essay translation has been formed.His theory is of theoretical and practical significance to the translation of English essays in China.
