A proverb is a short,well-known statement stating metaphorically a general truth. The translation of a proverb into another language conveys both its conceptual meaning and its metaphorical meaning."There's no smoke without fire" and its Chinese equivalent "wu feng bu qila ng",though seemingly the same, are different both conceptually and metaphorically. The major strategy for translation of proverbs should be foreignization, and together with domestication when the literal translation fails to be understandable to the TL readers.
