摘　　要：英语一般现在时除表示现在时间以外,还可以用来表达过去与将来时间。从一般现在时的实质现联性出发,以其两个基本特征——时间上的双向联系和心理上的现联性为依托,运用转喻认知机制对英语一般现在时语法形式和语法意义之间存在的矛盾进行了阐释,从而揭示一般现在时丰富的语法表意功能背后所隐藏的认知理据。Present tense in English embodies not only the present,but also the past and future.Based on the theory of present-connectiveness of present tense and its relative features—the two kinds of connectiveness in time,and with the metonymic mechanism,the paper tries to explain the contradictory phenomenon between the grammatical form and meaning of present tense and to reveal the cognitive motivation behind this inconsistency.
